October 27, 2020 – The Healthy Start Coalition of Miami-Dade (HSCMD) held its Annual Awards and Recognition Ceremony on Friday, October 23, 2020 as a virtual event. The ceremony celebrated the critical work performed by clinicians, case managers, colleagues, volunteers, Board members and staff that contribute to HSCMD remaining a leader in maternal, infant and child health in Miami-Dade County. 
 
The Healthy Start Coalition of Miami-Dade honored over 50 individuals and organizations for their diligent pledge in ensuring every baby in our community has a Healthy Start in life. 
 
“The Healthy Start Coalition of Miami-Dade has tirelessly served Miami-Dade County for the past 19 years, focused entirely on promoting maternal, infant, and child health,” said Manuel “Manny” Fermin, HSCMD Chief Executive Officer. “It is always extremely gratifying to celebrate the accomplishments of our colleagues, particularly during such trying times. We look forward to carrying on this work for years to come.”
 
The Florida Perinatal Quality Collaborative (FPQC) and Healthy Start Coalition of Miami-Dade jointly recognized hospitals that have committed to healthcare quality improvement for mothers and babies with the Champion of Quality Recognition.

Senator Anitere Flores was recognized as a Champion of Maternal, Infant, and Child Health for her ongoing support of efforts that improve the lives of women, infants, and families in our community.
 
Individuals who have dedicated 5, 10 and 15 years to improving the lives of mothers, infants and children in Miami-Dade County were also recognized. Please see addendum for a complete list of awardees.
 
The Healthy Start Coalition of Miami-Dade is a community-based, non-profit organization that serves as the County’s prenatal and infant care coalition. They partner with local community-based organizations to provide free, high-quality health and education services to women of childbearing age, children up to age three, and their families. The primary goal of HSCMD is to reduce infant mortality and the number of low-birth weight and pre-term births as well as improve maternal child health and developmental outcomes in Miami-Dade County.
