Helga Booth – Plantation General Hospital

Helga was born September 7, 1937 in Germany. Helga’s father was a Physician so it is no surprise her career was headed into the healthcare profession. In 1963 she traveled to the United States to visit her two Aunts. One of her Aunts discussed the idea of Helga becoming a Physical Therapist and ultimately Helga studied to be one. A fellow physician and friend suggested she apply for a job at a local area hospital. While working at that hospital she encountered a patient who sustained a severe injury. The patient’s family members were always present during his therapy. As faith would have it, Tom, the brother of this patient and Helga developed a close relationship and the rest is history. Helga and Tom celebrated their 40th Wedding Anniversary this past December. They have one daughter Suzanne Duffany. Suzanne and her husband Mark gave Helga two wonderful granddaughters, Sarah age 3 and Alexandrea age 8.

Helga was a loyal employee, dedicating 23 years in the Allied Health profession. Helga’s friends in the Physical Therapy Department as well as many staff members were sorry to see her retire. After only a short break, she decided there was more to accomplish. In June of 2003 she became a Plantation General Hospital Volunteer. Since that time she has accumulated approximately 980 hours of volunteer service in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Her service and loyalty has been invaluable to Plantation General Hospital.

Helga is also actively involved in Our Lady Queen of Martyrs where she sings in the Choir and has assisted with other tasks for the past few years. In addition she has recently joined the St. Vincent DePaul Operations which is a special group sponsored by her church that helps those less fortunate in the community.
