Robert Pittinger, Facilities Manager for Hospice by the Sea, Inc. (HBTS), has been selected as a recipient of the 2011 Senior Achievement Award presented by the American Health Association. He joins seven other honorees, who display exceptional leadership abilities and a genuine commitment to community service. He was distinguished as a “Professional Senior Achiever” at an awards ceremony held at Benvenuto Restaurant .Bob, as Pittinger likes to be called, has been part of the HBTS team for more than 10 years, during which time he has shown an unwavering commitment to assisting patients and their families. A dedicated family man, Bob once excused himself from a family picnic to respond to a dying patient’s request to be better able to see the flowers in the HBTS garden. By cutting a hole in a hedge blocking her view, he granted her wish. Bob also personally paid for a satellite TV subscription and hooked the equipment up to fulfill a patient’s desire to see his football team play. Then he stayed to watch the game! His diligence in service to others is also demonstrated by volunteering twice yearly as a Counselor at Camp Good Grief, Hospice by the Sea’s bereavement camp for children ages 5-15 that have recently lost a loved one.
