Founded by a devoted group of volunteers in 1978, Hospice by the Sea, Inc. (HBTS) has been trusted by generations of Palm Beach and Broward County residents to provide compassionate care and support to patients and families. The new year marks the not-for-profit healthcare organization’s thirty-fifth year of service.A series of events are schedule to take place throughout 2013 to highlight HBTS services and landmarks. On January 17, 2013, “An Evening of Remembrance” will commemorate Hospice by the Sea’s thirty-five years of caring for patients and families. Guests will light candles to remember their love ones at a ceremony in the gardens of the Boca Raton care center, followed by a wine and cheese reception under the stars. On February 12, 2013, a celebration, “Under the Night Sky”, will be held on the rooftop of the Himmarsheee Landing Building on Las Olas Boulevard, which is home to the HBTS Broward County clinical and corporate offices. Broward County Dignitaries, volunteers, representatives from the medical community, HBTS leadership, staff members and guests will enjoy the starlit sky view of downtown Ft. Lauderdale while enjoying the music of a string quartet.
Other special 35th Anniversary events will include an Employee Recognition Breakfast in February 2013, Physicians Recognition Dinners in March 2013, the Volunteer Recognition luncheon in April 2013, and a 35th Anniversary Camp Good Grief Reunion in June 2013. These events will be in addition to the 3rd Annual Hospice by the Sea Regatta to take place on Saturday, May 18, 2013, the 23rd Annual Celebration by the Sea, to take place on Saturday, October 12, 2013, and the 24th Annual Tree and Menorah of Remembrance at the Town Center Mall in Boca Raton and the Galleria Mall in Ft. Lauderdale during the month of December 2013.
“This is an important landmark for us and a tribute to that caring group of men and women who thirty-five years ago recognized the needs of their neighbors dealing with life limiting illness,” says Paula J. Alderson, President and CEO of Hospice by the Sea. “From our grass roots beginning in a Boca Raton storefront to the present, we always have provided the highest standard of hospice care.”
Each day, Hospice by the Sea cares for hundreds of patients in the place they call home or in one of three care centers located in Boca Raton, Pompano Beach’s John Knox Village and in Hollywood’s Memorial Regional Hospital South. In addition to hospice care, the organization has developed a full continuum of services for patients and families that includes palliative care, home health care services, complementary therapies as well as caregiver education and support.
