Hospice by the Sea, Inc. is pleased to announce plans to operate a hospice unit in the John Knox Village Health Center located in Pompano Beach. Renovations have begun and work is expected to be completed in October.
The new hospice unit will provide access to hospice and palliative care for residents of John Knox Village, as well as residents of the surrounding communities. This unit will focus on caring for patients with symptoms that require more acute treatment. “Our new six bed in-patient unit will be open to all patients needing the expertise and sensitivity of skilled hospice and palliative care professionals. An interdisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, certified nursing assistants, social workers, and counselors will provide medical supervision, pain and symptom management and complementary therapies, specifically designed for each patient’s unique needs,” said Gil Brown, Chief Operating Officer of Hospice by the Sea, Inc.
The new unit will reflect a warm, homelike environment. Six private rooms and a family room that includes computer access will comfortably accommodate patients, family members and friends. They also can take advantage of the beautiful outdoor setting at John Knox Village that includes a nature sanctuary, reflective ponds and lush gardens.
Hospice by the Sea and John Knox Village also recognize the challenges faced by family caregivers. Through this collaboration, complementary therapies, caregiver support and education will be provided to assist with the complexities of caring for a loved one with a serious illness
