Larry just celebrated his first anniversary being a member of the HospiceCare volunteer family. He has an infectious smile and warm and caring spirit that makes him an ideal volunteer. He recently undertook further training to become a HospiceCare 11th Hour Volunteer, which means Larry, will sit with a patient who is in his or her last twenty-four to forty-eight hours of life, thus ensuring that he or she does not die alone.

For the past thirteen years, George, Fiedler, an Emergency Pediatric, RN, has volunteered at HospiceCare’s Camp Coral, a complimentary bereavement camp for children ages 6-13 years, as the camp’s nurse. He administers medication to the children who require them, nursing any cuts or bruises that a child may have sustained, or curing a headache of an adult. George’s dedication, patience, understanding, and ability to make a nervous child who is way from home for the first time feel safe; have always made him an instant “hit” at the camp. His participation at Camp Coral is considered a “must have” in order to have a successful weekend.

Michael is one of HospiceCare’s teen volunteers; volunteering since he was fourteen years old. He, along with his dog, “Lucy”, a Jack Russell, would visit patients in facilities which allowed pet therapy. During those early years, his mother, Ayda Weiss, would accompany him on his visits. Now at seventeen, Michael has enjoyed volunteering for some of HospiceCare’s special event fundraisers such as the annual Regatta, Chili Cook-off and Camp Coral. At Camp Coral, Michael is one of the few teens who spend the entire weekend. He serves as a teen counselor with the responsibility of assisting the adult counselor in supervising the campers. This summer Michael will be leaving high school to peruse his college education and, we at HospiceCare will miss him very much but wish him the very best in his endeavors!
