Some kids may think their fathers have cool jobs, but Dean Leaman knew his fathers job was cool – literally.
“I remember sitting in the hallway of our home listening to my father talk about cryogenic equipment to his customers around the country,” said Leaman, president of isogasTM who began working in the industrial/medical and specialty gas industry in 1979. “My dad was the national sales manager for MVE, Minnesota Valley Engineering. MVE helped pioneer many of the products used today in liquid nitrogen preservation and cryogenic storage. So, I guess you could say its in my blood.”
Although most infamously associated with the frozen suspension that the bodies of Walt Disney and Ted Williams exist in, cryogenics and compressed gases have many applications. They are used in everything from helium for balloons to propulsion in the space shuttle, as well as, human life support, and research applications and preservation.
“When I tell people that I am in the compressed gas business, most tend to get a look of bewilderment,” he said. “For the most part, production and containment of gases has not changed in 50 years. As an industry, compressed gas supply companies have been, and continue to be, difficult to do business with because they have been stuck in a very traditional business model, difficult for the end user to understand.”
Leaman says isogasTM was started with the idea of filling a void within a market that appeared to offer a fantastic opportunity for a company with innovation and local representation in the supply of cryogenics and medical/specialty compressed gases.
“We pulled together talents from a Big 5 accounting firm, for accounting innovation, home healthcare, for medical innovation and 30+ years of industrial gases and marketing, for an overall understanding of what customers want and need, all of whom have a real commitment to South Florida,” he said. “Our mission is to provide a flexible business organization, while supplying quality products and innovative services.”
About two years ago, the company made a sizable investment to bring the industries latest innovation to South Florida call MicroBulkTM.
“This is a system that allows us to deliver liquid nitrogen on-site to a wide array of industries including, biomedical research facilities and medical service providers, producing substantial savings and a much- improved product for the end user,” Leaman said. “isogasTM is the only company in south Florida with the MicroBulkTM system.”
The company hasnt stopped innovating either. Leaman says the next project was when we contacted Mathew Fisher of Hyperluminal to implement an Ariba-ready Punch-out web site.
“We set a budget and a very aggressive deadline for implementation of this project,” Leaman said. “Mr. Fishers experience and personal hands-on approach put us on-line, on time and within budget. Again, the first of its kind in South Florida. Our company has worked very hard to earn a reputation of service, trust and innovation. These two projects have helped us to further set ourselves apart from our competition. We continue to work closely with the science and medical markets to find ways to improve our companys products and services.”
As the companys reputation has grown, so has its responsibility, but Leaman says isogasTM is ready to meet the trust that the largest research facility in south Florida the University of Miami has given them.
“We are very proud to announce that isogasTM has recently entered into an agreement with the University of Miami for the supply of gases and related equipment,” Leaman said. “Our pursuit of innovation and flexibility, along with the efforts of our entire team, who did a great job, resulted in our being awarded this contract.”
