Sheba’s internationally renowned director general Prof. Yitshak Kreiss recently came to Aventura to discuss the trailblazing innovations emanating out of Israel’s Sheba Medical Center and the hospital’s relentless mission to advance healthcare across the globe, including right here in South Florida.
Kreiss also announced that Newsweek just recognized Sheba Medical Center, Tel HaShomer – the largest and most comprehensive hospital in Israel and the Middle East – as one of the 10 best hospitals across the entire globe.
Kreiss’ Florida visit officially launched the opening of the American Friends of Sheba Medical Center, Tel HaShomer’s Florida office with an exclusive event on Williams Island on March 27th. American Friends of Sheba will help raise awareness in South Florida about Sheba’s incredible work around the world. 
Prof. Kreiss says the future of healthcare is limitless. “We aspire to have world impact, to heal the world, through humanitarianism and medical innovation,” said Prof. Kreiss. “We are eliminating the borders of traditional hospitals through tele-medicine, and we are creating the hospital of the future.”
The event was graciously hosted by Daphna Cramer and Lisa Pulver, and was attended by local dignitaries including: Mayor Enid Weisman, Mayor Joy Adams, Commissioner Mark Narosky, Commissioner Gladys Mizrahi, and Guy Giladi, Deputy Consul General of Israel to Florida and Puerto Rico.
Before becoming director general of Sheba, Prof. Kreiss served as Surgeon General of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) from 2011-2014. One of the qualities he’s most renowned for is his expertise in crisis leadership.
That expertise in crisis leadership has placed Sheba on the frontline of global humanitarian rescue missions. In fact, last week, a team of humanitarian medical experts and doctors from Sheba arrived in Beira, Mozambique to assess urgent medical and supply needs in the wake of the deadly cyclone. And just a few months ago, Sheba partnered with FAU tolead emergency management training sessions to prepare South Florida for worst-case scenarios.
