Magdalena H. Averhoff, M.D., associate chief medical officer of Jackson South Community Hospital, was appointed by Gov. Rick Scott to the Florida Board of Medicine.
 
Dr. Averhoff, a longtime Miami gastroenterologist, served as the medical director of hospitalist service at Jackson Memorial Hospital prior to being named to her current role at Jackson South. She also spent 23 years in private practice, focusing on clinical and endoscopic gastroenterology, served as a board member of Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) in Tennessee, was the medical director of inpatient care at Preferred Care Partners, a Florida Medicare HMO, and a board member at Cedars Medical Center (currently University of Miami Hospital).
