The prestigious award recognizes professionals from across the country in 10 categories, focusing on their work on projects and contributions to improvements in healthcare design. Kistel won the award in the Owner category, which reflects his leadership of several projects at Lee Health.

In his role at Lee Health, Kistel is responsible for the integrated facilities and support service operations for all of the health care system’s hospitals and outpatient and physician office sites, along with other crucial locations.

Kistel has been with Lee Health for more than 35 years and, during his time with the health care system, has led several key projects, including the plans and construction of Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida and Lee Health Coconut Point; the major expansion at Gulf Coast Medical Center; Cape Coral Hospital’s west and north wing tower additions, family birth center and wellness center; HealthPark Medical Center’s vertical patient tower expansion, operating room expansions, cardiovascular expansion, and emergency department expansion; an extensive number of refurbishment projects within Lee Health’s existing buildings to support clinical modernization and technology advancements for patients, staff and physicians; and the new Fort Myers hospital campus that Lee Health will build on Challenger Blvd.
