For five years the Martin Memorial Wound Medicine Center has provided award-winning care to residents of the Treasure Coast. But recently the center began delivering the same care at a new location and with a new name.
The David L. Smythe Wound Center officially opened its doors with an unveiling ceremony honoring its namesake. Smythe was a patient at the wound center beginning in October 2007 and like many patients who receive treatment at the wound center, he was impressed with the care he received. However, he was so impressed that he made a gift of $500,000 as a gesture of gratitude to the staff who helped him through the healing process.
“The nurses and physicians here, I dont think you could ever find any better,” Smythe said. “I want to thank each of them not just for the care I received, but for giving me the opportunity to give something back. This is an opportunity I havent run across in my life and Im thankful to be a part of it.”
