After a hard day on the job, it’s nice to be able to go somewhere to relax, work out, or just enjoy a good meal. The Weston Hills Country Club, located in Weston, Florida, was designed to provide its members with all of these options, as well as the opportunity to play golf on one of its two premier private courses.

“I think what makes us different from other clubs in the area is that we are fully amenitized—our members can take advantage of golf, tennis, and swimming facilities, as well as a fitness center, and a dining facility that provides lunch every day and dinner six days a week,” explained General Manager Bob Holzman.

The Club, which was built in 1990, attracts members from all walks of life, including medical professionals from the Cleveland Clinic and other medical offices in West Broward County. Many are enticed by the Club’s two regulation 18-hole courses, designed by noted course designer Robert Trent Jones, Jr.

In addition to its Tour Course and Players Course, Weston Hills is also home to a state-of-the-art Golf Learning Center, which houses the Jim McLean Golf Academy. Located on 15 pristine acres, the Center enables golfers to improve their games by working with master instructors, and also hosts adult, junior and corporate golf clinics.

Even outside of Florida, the Club is known for its focus on quality golf. In the past fifteen years, Weston Hills has been recognized as one of the 50 most distinctive courses in the southeastern United States, and has also been given the ‘Best Private Women’s Golf Association’ award and ‘Top 100 Women-Friendly Course’ award by Golf for Women magazine.

Pros and celebrities have also taken advantage of the Club’s exclusive greens. According to Holzman, Weston Hills hosts a number of national events, including the PGA Honda Classic, Dan Marino Celebrity Invitational, and LPGA Chrysler Plymouth Tournament of Champions. The Club also hosts USGA qualifying events.

For those members who prefer to take advantage of other recreational opportunities, a junior Olympic-sized pool is available for swimming, as is a children’s wading pool. Tennis players enjoy the use of eight Har-Tru tennis courts, and all members can enjoy working out in the Club’s fitness center.

While members certainly appreciate Weston Hills’ sporting opportunities, Holzman says that other amenities also add to the Club’s attraction. “We host a number of events throughout the year for all sorts of organizations,” he said. “We hold retirement parties, the Cleveland Clinic’s Christmas party—even board meetings are popular here. In our 50,000-square-foot clubhouse, we have banquet seating for up to 400, and we can cater events for any number of people from four to 400!”

And the fun doesn’t stop there. “We have a lot of social members, so we try to hold quite a number of different events for them,” said Activities Coordinator Patrick Olesko. “We want to make sure that everyone can find something that interests them.”

Yearly events include the Kite Fest, which attracts more than 800 people to the Club. “We give out kites and provide snacks and music, and it really turns into a community event,” said Olesko. Another favorite event is Doggie Days, during which members can bring their pets to the Club for pictures and training tips, and can also mingle with animal organizations including the Broward County Humane Society and Petopia.

“It’s really important to us that families have a good time at Weston Hills, so we hold a lot of family- and child-oriented events as well,” added Olesko. “We have storytellers, and clowns, and sing-alongs, and this Halloween, we’re putting on a musical Hansel and Gretel.”

Olesko works with other community organizations to provide entertainment for the Club’s members, including the Fort Lauderdale Children’s Theatre, the Miami Museum of Science and even a bat rescue center out of St. Petersburg. Future events include a college fair for member’s ninth-grade students and a self-defense class for kids.

“There’s always something going on at Club,” summed up Olesko. “Whether it’s a fashion show to raise money for the Breast Cancer Association, or makeup clinicians coming in to offer a fun makeover day for our members.”
