Miami Jewish Health Systems at Douglas Gardens recently announced plans for a state-of-the-art facility unlike anything else in the region. A village-like medical facility, the Miami Jewish EmpathiCare™ Village will be dedicated to the treatment and care of Alzheimer’s disease and other memory disorders.
Inspired by the best models for memory disease care, and in partnership with the innovative architectural team of C.C. Hodgson, Miami Jewish Health Systems showcased a multi-phased, master plan that will transform its 28-acre Douglas Gardens campus into a world-class facility.
“No matter how good our intentions may be, and even with the best of care, it is always a painful decision to put a loved one into a long-term care facility,” said President and CEO of Miami Jewish Health Systems Jeffrey P. Freimark. “The bold vision we are unveiling will change that. We intend to not only be known as the finest in the nation, we intend to be the finest in the world.”
A state-of-the-art facility, the Miami Jewish EmpathiCare™ Village will enhance how Miami Jewish Health Systems provides care for the elderly.
“We are developing this community to give residents with various degrees of cognitive impairment a way to leverage their strengths in a secure and self-contained setting. In the village they can feel a greater sense of normalcy with a grocery store, spa, creative arts program, café and community center,” explained Vice President of Behavioral Health and Clinical Research Dr. Marc Agronin. “While the groundbreaking of the village isn’t anticipated for another 12 to 18 months, Miami Jewish will be developing a prototype scheduled to open by the fall of 2015.”
