Bethesda Healthcare System has appointed Michael J. Carmichael, M.D., and Samantha E. Kwon, M.D., to join Medical Director Geoffrey Lynn, M.D., to form the Cardiovascular Surgery team of the Bethesda Heart Institute that will open February 2008.
Dr. Carmichael is a Board Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Thoracic Surgery who relocated to Palm Beach County after a 20-year tenure as the president of the Ocala Heart & Vascular Institute. During his tenure, Dr. Carmichael established eight open-heart surgery programs including those at Ocala Regional Medical Center, Munroe Regional Medical Center, Citrus Memorial Hospital and most recently at Martin Memorial Hospital in Stuart, FL., as well as two open-heart surgery programs in China. Among his honors, Dr. Carmichael is listed in The Guide to America’s Top Surgeons and was selected in 2002 as “Florida’s Top Doctor” in Thoracic Surgery.
Dr. Kwon is Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery and earned her Medical Degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine. She did her residency in cardiothoracic surgery and did a fellowship in thoracic surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Dr. Kwon joins the Bethesda Heart Institute, after working with Dr. Carmichael at the Ocala Heart & Vascular Institute.
As Medical Director of the Cardiovascular Surgery program at Bethesda Heart Institute, Dr. Lynn is Board Certified in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery by The American Board of Thoracic Surgery, and he is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Lynn has practiced in the Boynton Beach and Delray Beach areas since 1997, performing more than 7,500 cardiovascular and thoracic surgeries.
