October 30 2019  – For many years, Memorial Healthcare System (MHS) has made it a priority to implement information technology strategies that benefit patients, families, and South Florida healthcare consumers. Now that effort has been recognized for performance excellence by a national organization that encourages the use of technology to improve patient safety and outcomes.

The College of Health Information Management Executives (CHIME) awarded MHS level 9 status (out of 10) in its 2019 “Healthcare’s Most Wired” program. Following a comprehensive survey of healthcare systems and hospitals in the U.S., innovation was quantified in areas that included telehealth, price transparency, cost-analysis, access to data at the point of care, and tools that engaged patients and their families. Memorial was one of only five organizations in Florida to reach level 9 and the only one in Broward County.

“We’ve been an early adapter and innovator in healthcare technology, but it’s all been done with a focus on patient safety and securing the best possible outcomes,” said Memorial Healthcare System Chief Information Officer Jeffrey S. Sturman. “We’ve positioned ourselves and our customers for success today and in the future.”

The CHIME survey identified, recognized, and certified the adoption, implementation, and use of information technology by healthcare provider organizations. Level 9 designation recognizes those who actively push the industry forward, not only by implementing advanced technology, but by leveraging it in innovative ways that improve care and the patient experience, reduce costs, and broaden access to services.

Only three healthcare organizations in America are eligible for level 10 status, pending on-site inspections. All the survey results can be accessed here. Sturman and Memorial will be among those honored next month at CHIME’s Fall CIO Forum in Phoenix.

Memorial Healthcare System is one of the largest public healthcare systems in the U.S. and a national leader in quality care and patient satisfaction. It is highly regarded for a patient and family-centered approach at facilities that include Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, Memorial Regional Hospital, Memorial Regional Hospital South, Memorial Hospital West, Memorial Hospital Miramar, Memorial Hospital Pembroke, Joe DiMaggio Children’s Health Specialty Center in Wellington, and Memorial Manor nursing home.

Among the many awards and recognition it has earned are Modern Healthcare magazine’s “Best Place to Work in Healthcare,” Florida Trend’s “Florida’s Best Companies to Work For,” and Becker’s Hospital Review’s “150 Great Places to Work in Healthcare.” In a recent report (“Humanizing Brand Experience”), the Denver-based consulting firm Monigle named Memorial the top health system brand in America, based on consumer surveys.
