December 11, 2020 – Dr. Jessica Okun, a highly-skilled neurological surgeon and specialist in brain and pituitary tumors, degenerative spinal disease and neurotrauma, medical student and resident education, was named “Physician of the Quarter 1” at Florida Medical Center, a campus of North Shore located in Fort Lauderdale. Dr. Okun was nominated in a process involving hospital employees and physicians. Dr. Okun is beloved by both staff and patients for her compassion, knowledge and dedication.
As a neurosurgeon, Dr. Okun specializes in brain and pituitary tumors, epilepsy surgery, including endoscopic approaches as well as cranial and spine trauma, degenerative spinal pathology, including minimally invasive and complex approaches. Dr. Okun is on staff at Florida Medical Center, a campus of North Shore located in Fort Lauderdale. 
For her education and training prior to joining Tenet Florida Physician Services and the Advanced Neuroscience Network Physicians group, Dr. Okun finished a neurological surgery residency at PCOM where she was Administrative and Didactics Chief Resident and her surgical transitional internship at Mercy Health System in Philadelphia. Dr. Okun graduated medical school with highest honors as a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from the Nova Southeastern University College of Medicine in Fort Lauderdale and Summa Cum Laude with a Master of Science (MS) in Biomedical Sciences from Barry University in Miami. Dr. Okun has several neurological and spinal research articles in medical journals and has written several abstracts on her research. She participated as an invited lecturer on a diverse range of Neurosurgical topics at several separate hospital grand rounds. Dr. Okun has been practicing medicine since 2010.
