APRIL 29 2021 – The North Broward Hospital District Board of Commissioners, which oversees Broward Health, welcomed three new commissioners at yesterday’s board meeting. Recently appointed by Governor Ron DeSantis, John Hage, Chris Pernicano and Levi Williams were confirmed by the board.
“We are pleased to welcome these exceptional businessmen and community leaders to the North Broward Hospital District Board of Commissioners,” said Shane Strum, President/CEO of Broward Health. “Mr. Hage, Mr. Pernicano and Mr. Williams join a dedicated board that has built a strong foundation for our system. With the addition of these new commissioners, the completion of our board will ensure the continued success of Broward Health.”
Hage has dedicated his career to education. As the founder and CEO of Charter Schools USA, he leads one of the nation’s largest and highest performing education companies that encompasses 10,000 team members educating 75,000 students in 95 schools across five states. Hage also created and oversees Red Apple Development, a leader in school development, financing and building more than six million square feet of new schools. In 2013, he was named Floridian of the Year by Florida Trend magazine and he participated in the COVID-19/ReOpen Florida Task Force. Hage served in the U.S. Special Forces/Green Berets and holds degrees from the University of Colorado and Georgetown University.
Pernicano has more than 20 years in the FinTech space, with experience in all aspects of small, medium and large company operation, including executive management, technology, operations, human resources and sales. He is the Vice President of Engineering and IT with Netsmart. Previously, he served as Chief Operating Officer of Tellus, LLC, where he was responsible for delivery organization, including analytics, development, quality, project/product management and client relationship management. A resident of Fort Lauderdale, Pernicano has bachelor and master’s degrees in engineering from the University of Florida, where he also achieved an MBA.
Williams is President/Shareholder of the Law Offices of Levi Williams, P.A., a boutique suite of practice areas for effective and cost-efficient services to business and governmental clientele. He is a previous partner at Fertig and Gramling and is also a member of the Florida Bar. Williams has been heavily involved in the community for the past two decades, sitting on boards such as the Independent Commission on Education, Gold Coast Jazz Society and the Urban League of Broward County. He has a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Illinois and a Juris Doctor from the University of Florida. Hage, Pernicano and Williams join Chair Nancy Gregorie, Vice Chair Stacy Angier, Secretary/Treasurer Marie Waugh, as well as Commissioner Ray Berry, who was reappointed to the Board for a second term by Governor DeSantis.
