Heart Failure Award
The American Heart Association/American Stroke Association honored North Shore with American Heart Association(AHA)/American Stroke Association(ASA)’s Get With The Guidelines®- Heart Failure Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award. The designation recognizes the hospital’s commitment to meeting nationally recognized, research-based measures for the diagnosis and treatment of heart failure patients at a set level for a designated period.
Stroke Quality Achievement Award
North Shore Medical Center was awarded the AHA/ASA’s Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award with Target: StrokeSM Honor Roll. The hospital’s Joint Commission-accredited Primary Stroke Center and its affiliated physicians are part of the Advanced Neuroscience Network, an integrated delivery system of medical professionals and hospitals focused on offering a full continuum of neurological care throughout South Florida.
Commitment to Improving Stroke Care
In further demonstration of North Shore Medical Center’s dedication to stroke care, the hospital was awarded for participating in the Miami-Dade Stroke Consortium (MDSC). North Shore Medical Center was recognized for its outstanding work and dedication to improving stroke outcomes in Miami-Dade by the MDSC, an affiliate of the Neuroscience Centers of Florida Foundation.
National Accreditation for Bariatric Program
North Shore Medical Center’s surgical weight loss program was designated by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) as a comprehensive bariatric center for meeting the highest standards of patient safety and quality care. To earn MBSAQIP accreditation, the program had to meet essential criteria for staffing, training and facility infrastructure and care protocols, ensuring its ability to support patients with severe obesity. The MBSAQIP standards guarantee that bariatric surgical patients receive a multidisciplinary program, not just a surgical procedure, which improves patient outcomes and long-term success.
Hybrid Operating Room
North Shore Medical Center’s newest operating room is a hybrid suite that combines some of the latest surgical technology with the most sophisticated imaging capabilities. Surgeons now have the ability to perform traditional, open surgery and minimally invasive, endovascular procedures on the same patient, at the same time, in the same place without having to move the patient.
Breast and Heart Health Awareness
In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, North Shore Medical Center hosted its second annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk to pay tribute to those who have been affected by breast cancer. The 3k walk kicked off with a speech from hospital administrators and Dr. Hakan Charles-Harris, medical director of North Shore’s Comprehensive Breast Institute. Nurses and technicians from the institute discussed the importance of breast cancer awareness and how physicians and staff are working towards increasing the number of early diagnoses in the community. Additionally, the hospital celebrated Heart Month by hosting a Heart Health Fair with free lectures and screenings.
