December 27, 2021 – Northwest Medical Center’s neonatal intensive care (NICU) received a special visit on Christmas Eve. In celebration of the holiday, Santa Claus stopped by to visit the NICU to pose for photos with the hospital’s smallest patients.

The visit was planned by registered nurses Supitcha Saengkrajang, who stayed late after working the day shift on Christmas Eve to dress up as Santa, and Jennifer Oistacher, who came in on her night off to coordinate the photoshoot.

“I love to make memories for the babies that the parents can keep after they go home,” said Jennifer Oistacher, a registered nurse in Northwest Medical Center’s NICU.

The photos captured were printed and framed that night and placed at the patients’ bedsides as a holiday present for their loved ones who would visit the next morning.

Jennifer, Supitcha and the other nurses, physicians, respiratory therapists and more working in the NICU often pull together photo shoots for the babies for holidays and observances, such as Halloween. The team plans and executes on these creative ideas outside of their typical duties on the unit to help make milestones, such as first holidays, special for the families whose newborns are not yet able to celebrate with them at home.

As the only Level III NICU in northern Broward County, Northwest Medical Center provides individualized, high-quality care for infants born prematurely or critically, delivering expert medical treatment with warmth and compassion to all infants in a family-centered atmosphere. Led by board-certified neonatologists, who are in house and available 24/7, the staff in our NICU works together with specialists, registered nurses, respiratory therapists and more to provide advanced care to our smallest patients.
