Danielle Sheehy, a nurse manager overseeing multiple departments within Surgical Services, hadn’t considered a future in leadership when she started her career. Now, 13 years later, she can’t see herself in any other role.
“To have the ability to positively impact and help develop nurses, including nurse residents and fellows, provides a real sense of pride and purpose,” said Sheehy, who joined Memorial Healthcare System in 2016. “To help nurses reach their full potential, as my mentors Deb Shepard, Nicole Digiacomo, and Siobhan Davis did for me, is an amazing feeling.”
Sheehy’s bedside career started in the Emergency Room, and it was there she was able to see firsthand the significant impact a nurse can have. “I happened to know the family of an 18-year-old patient we kept alive utilizing multiple resuscitative attempts and emergency surgery following a motorcycle accident. About six months later, I saw my patient at a family event, fully functional and doing well.”
