Approximately 20 years after she first began working in the Memorial Healthcare System, both in the Adult IMCU and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Chiquita Howell transitioned to the ambulatory world last year. The director of nursing was attracted by the opportunity to have a greater impact within the community, specifically mentioning the system’s “One City at a Time” initiative that brings healthcare services directly to underserved individuals in south Broward County.
Howell has oversight for all clinical operations at Memorial Primary Care, which includes its newly-opened Sickle Cell Medical Home. When asked what she enjoys about her career and Memorial, Howell responded, “I enjoy leadership and developing people; colleagues are an extension of my family. Memorial is great about providing the tools and resources to help nurses blossom.”
Howell is a native South Floridian that attended Miami Edison Senior High School. She completed her undergraduate studies at Barry University, graduate studies at Nova Southeastern University, and is a proud member of the South Broward Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
