Nurse Researcher Speaks at Barry University School of Nursing 3rd Annual Summer Colloquium

Barry University School of Nursing held its 3rd annual Summer Colloquium at the university’s main campus in Miami Shores on June 22. More than 30 doctoral nursing students and faculty attended the event. Guest speaker, Sandra Millon Underwood, PhD, RN, FAAN, shared her expertise on the topics of cancer in underserved populations and multicultural health issues in nursing. Dr Underwood is a Professor of Nursing at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee.

Her comments included interventions aimed toward improving the access of minority, economically disadvantaged and medically underserved populations to cancer prevention and control programs. Dr Underwood’s expertise in cancer research for African-American populations enhanced the participants’ knowledge in health promotion and maintenance, cancer prevention and control and the care of culturally diverse and underserved populations.

Multicultural Health is the focus of study for the Barry University’s doctoral program.
