July 13, 2022  Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital welcomes otolaryngologist Ashley C. Mays, MD. Dr. Mays is board certified and fellowship trained in head and neck surgical oncology and total body microvascular reconstruction.

After earning her medical degree at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina, Dr. Mays completed her otolaryngology residency at Wake Forest University in Winston Salem, North Carolina. She went on to complete a two-year fellowship in Head and Neck Surgical Oncology and Total Body Microvascular Reconstruction at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.

Part of an expert multidisciplinary team in the Department of Otolaryngology at Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital, Dr. Mays specializes in the treatment of head and neck cancer, upper aerodigestive tract lesions and complex reconstructive deficits.

“I chose this specialty to care for the most complex issues of the head and neck, and work as an advocate for a patient population that requires the highest level of care,” says Dr. Mays. “Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital is dedicated to our strong, multidisciplinary program based around providing quaternary care to the Florida region.”

Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital, Dr. Mays was assistant professor and Director of Quality at the Louisiana State University Department of Otolaryngology. She has made research contributions to head and neck oncology and reconstructive surgery in both the clinical and translational realms, and has co-authored more than 30 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters.

Dr. Mays holds professional memberships in the American Head and Neck Society, the American Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery and the American College of Surgeons.
