Free October events offer something for everyone to improve brain health

Palm Health Foundation is aiming to have everyone in Palm Beach County focused on brain health during the month of October for its second annual “Train the Brain" campaign.  The foundation is offering a calendar full of free events for every generation and interest—from improving sleep, to art therapy, to healthy cooking demos—all with the intention of helping residents understand that taking care of the brain is just as important as taking care of the rest of the body.

The public health campaign is one example of the foundation’s evolution from funding mostly clinical healthcare towards a focus on lifelong wellbeing to help all residents thrive and reach their full health potential.  The campaign’s website at www.TraintheBrainPBC.org provides a calendar of events, advice to integrate self-care behaviors into daily routines, and suggestions for showing compassion to individuals with acute and persistent mental health conditions.  It also encourages visitors to take the “Brain Health Pledge” to commit to improving brain health.
Support for mental health conditions has claimed the top spot of Palm Beach County’s greatest unmet health needs for several years in a row and the foundation has responded by deepening its commitment.

“As a community health foundation, it’s our responsibility to create impact where it’s needed most,” said Patrick McNamara, CEO of Palm Health Foundation.  “That’s why we strive for engagement at every level—from grass roots efforts like Train the Brain all the way up to our $1 million Better Brain Health fundraising campaign that will provide opportunities to donors to support education and training, advance research, and spearhead innovations in brain health.”

The grand finale of the Train the Brain campaign will be the Better Brain Health Luncheon, sponsored by Jupiter Medical Center’s Calcagnini Center for Mindfulness on November 1, 2018 at the Kravis Center Cohen Pavilion. The luncheon will feature keynote speaker and TED Talk “All-Star,” Helen E. Fisher, PhD, a pioneer in the research of human personality and the neurochemistry of leadership.  Tickets are available at www.PalmHealthFoundation.org.
