On Friday afternoon, October 20, 2017 Palmetto General celebrated the grand opening of the new Clinical Decision Unit (CDU). The guests were greeted by Vilam Medio, Marketing Director at Palmetto General Hospital and then Ana Mederos, the Chief Executive Officer at Palmetto General Hospital spoke about the hospital’s history and how the Clinical Decision Unit will benefit the Hialeah residents. Eric Evans, President of Tenet Healthcare Hospital Operations, followed Ms. Mederos, and spoke about Tenet’s vision and goals for Palmetto General and Tenet’s dedication for the South Florida Healthcare Market. Following the Ribbon Cutting, the guests were given a tour of the new Clinical Decision Unit by staff.

 The CDU is an observation area that provides ongoing patient care, short term treatment, diagnostic testing and assessment. Observation services are commonly ordered for patients who enter the Emergency Department and who require more time for the physician to determine if they need additional inpatient treatment or may be safely discharged. Conditions may include: Chest Pain, atrial fibrillation, asthma-related symptoms, cellulitis, kidney stones, dehydration, abdominal pain, fever, dizziness, fainting/loss of consciousness, minor infections, and other conditions as determined by the patient’s doctor. 
The CDU will official open and start severing patients on Monday, October 23, 2017.
