September 29, 2020 – Plantation General Hospital was recently honored for its commitment to environmental sustainability, receiving the Making Medicine Mercury-Free Award from Practice Greenhealth, the nation’s leading organization dedicated to environmental sustainability in health care.

By achieving a top standard of excellence in environmental sustainably, the Making Medicine Mercury-Free Award recognizes that Plantation General Hospital has virtually eliminated the use of mercury and has measures in place to prevent future use of it.

“Plantation General Hospital is dedicated to protecting the health of patients and the community, said Lonnie Clinkscale, Director of Environmental Services.” Our commitment to improving our environmental footprint demonstrates how we are helping create healthier tomorrows.”

Mercury reduction policies are among the most common environmental commitments in healthcare. Mercury is toxic to human health, posing a threat to the development of children and particularly potent to those with compromised immunity.

“To be recognized along with 55 other HCA Healthcare facilities is truly an honor and is confirmation of the work our teams do every day, said Kirstin Hinsley,” Chief Operating Officer. “This award recognizes our ongoing commitment to improving our environmental performance, and we look forward to working with Practice Greenhealth to further our sustainability.”

Practice Greenhealth, the nation’s leading source for environmentally friendly practices in healthcare, recognizes healthcare facilities and health systems for their commitment to improving environmental performance while demonstrating sustainability efforts in the community.
