Plaza Health Network is proud to announce Leonard J. Pianko, M.D., F.A.C.C. as its new Chief Medical Officer. Plaza Health Network is South Florida’s largest, not-for-profit network of rehabilitation and skilled nursing centers with seven locations throughout Miami-Dade County.
Dr. Pianko is board certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease. In his role as Chief Medical Officer, he will be directing physician leadership, strategic initiatives designed to enhance the quality of patient care across all facilities, and the implementation of cutting-edge medical technology and services. He will oversee communications with the medical directors across all Plaza Health Network centers as well as visiting physicians. As well, Dr. Pianko will serve as Plaza’s spokesperson within the medical community to create more strategic alliances and partnership programs to deliver high quality, collaborative, multidisciplinary care.
This new position is a homecoming of sorts for Dr. Pianko who once served as the Medical Director of Aventura Plaza from 2002 to 2005. With an already successful, established private practice in Aventura, Dr. Pianko continued to care for patients at Aventura Plaza, Arch Plaza and Sinai Plaza over the years.
“It feels wonderful to return to Plaza Health Network to now assume the role of Chief Medical Officer,” said Dr. Pianko. “Over the years, Plaza Health Network has been forward-thinking in its use of technology in healthcare, such as telemetry and telemedicine. I look forward to playing an active role in that program that will continue to avoid and reduce unnecessary hospital readmissions.”
Dr. Pianko received his medical degree at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, followed by an internship and residency in internal medicine and cardiovascular training at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Jersey. Dr. Pianko is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a member of the American College of Physicians, American Medical Association, American College of Cardiology, and the Dade County Medical Association. Dr. Pianko is currently affiliated with Aventura Medical Center.
“The successful recruitment of Dr. Pianko is yet another in the long line of accomplishments for Plaza Health Network," said Elaine Bloom, President and CEO. "We know the community counts on our centers to provide skilled care and we welcome the expertise that Dr. Pianko brings to our network."
