Plaza Health Network’s University Plaza is now providing customized outpatient therapy services, as part of the Network’s ongoing commitment to high quality rehabilitative care.

“Therapy is such a major component of the overall care we provide,” said Elaine Bloom, President and CEO of Plaza Health Network. “Providing outpatient therapy services at University Plaza, which is in the heart of Miami’s medical district, will allow us to serve the greater community in addition to offering the continuity of care to our patients who have returned to their homes following inpatient and skilled nursing care.”

• Outpatient therapy services at University Plaza are available with a current medical prescription and include special therapy in a state-of-the-art heated therapy pool, as well as physical, occupational and speech therapy.
• Physical therapists at University Plaza are highly trained and can further rehabilitative efforts for conditions such as orthopedic injuries, fall and balance issues, spinal cord injuries, stroke, joint replacement, post-operative recovery and more.
• Occupational therapy can help patients to redevelop lost skills or improve performance of activities of daily living such as eating, bathing, dressing, personal care, meal preparation and home management. Patients who benefit most from outpatient occupational therapy include those with chronic conditions such as heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes, obesity, arthritis, traumatic brain injuries and osteoporosis.
• Speech therapy not only focuses on speech, language, and communication disorders but can also be beneficial for patients who have difficulty swallowing or eating, laryngeal cancer, ALS or Parkinson’s disease.
• Aquatic therapy is a unique feature at Plaza Health Network that offers multiple benefits including less pain during rehabilitation therapy and a speedier recovery. Patients who have limited physical endurance on land are able to submerge in warm water that provides vasodilation of the blood vessels, which improves circulation and reduces swelling while allowing for increased movement.

The highly trained therapists at University Plaza are part of a comprehensive team of specialists who work together to plan and customize care for each patient. This results in maximized functional independence and safety for patients to return to a fuller and more purposeful life.
