October 2, 2019 – Prestige Health Choice, a Medicaid managed care plan serving seven Florida counties and part of the AmeriHealth Caritas Family of Companies, has earned a Commendable Health Plan Accreditation status from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). This is NCQA’s second-highest Health Plan accreditation status level.

NCQA Accreditation status is based on rigorous on-site and off-site evaluations of over 60 standards and selected Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS®) measures. NCQA awards a status of Commendable to organizations with service and clinical quality that meet NCQA’s comprehensive requirements for consumer protection and quality improvement.

Prestige Health Choice improved its accreditation status from Accredited to Commendable through ongoing evaluation and continuous quality improvement. In addition, Prestige Health Choice improved its NCQA Medicaid Health Insurance Plan rating, from 2.5 out of 5 in 2018-2019 to 3 out of 5 in 2019-2020.

“Achieving Commendable status is a testament to the improvements that Prestige Health Choice has made since joining the AmeriHealth Caritas Family of Companies,” said Prestige Health Choice Market President Kathy Warner. “We have made particular strides in addressing the social risk factors that so many of our members face every day, and which can negatively impact their health and well-being. By addressing these social determinants of health, we strive to help our members manage their health and improve their quality of life.”

NCQA Health Plan Accreditation is a nationally recognized evaluation that purchasers, regulators and consumers can use to assess health plans. NCQA Accreditation not only involves a rigorous review of a health plan’s consumer protection and quality improvement systems, but also requires health plans to submit audited data on key clinical and service measures (e.g., mammography screening rates; smoking cessation) in order to achieve the highest levels of accreditation.
NCQA is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to improving health care quality. NCQA accredits and certifies a wide range of health care organizations and recognizes clinicians in key clinical areas. NCQA’s HEDIS® is the most widely used performance measurement tool in health care.
