As Chief Financial Officer of the Miami Jewish Home and Hospital, Mark Knight is responsible for all accounting, risk management, insurance, materials management, health information management, information technology, human resources, and implementation of the Home’s new billing system. Knight came to the Miami Jewish Home in September, 2006, from the North Broward Hospital District, where he served as Executive Vice President/Chief Financial Officer from 2002 to 2006. Prior to that, he was the District’s Vice President/Corporate Compliance Officer from 1998 to 2002. During Knight’s tenure as CFO, the North Broward Hospital District’s Excess Revenue over Expenses increased from the break even point to $65 million. Knight implemented a new billing system and encoder which reduced billing inventory to under $2 million, and he refinanced $200 million in debt, saving the District over $300,000 annually.

Since assuming the role of CFO at the Miami Jewish Home, Knight has concentrated on billing and collection. He has focused especially on collecting for all services rendered, whether by the hospital, nursing home or clinic. Knight has been able to reduce costs by 4% through tighter control of discretionary spending and contract review for services and supplies. He has also been able to increase the Home’s cash flow by 11% by restructuring MJHH’s business operations and by implementing new technology in areas such as registration and billing.

The Miami Jewish Home and Hospital’s COO, Fred Stock, said of Knight’s coming to MJHH: “Mark Knight brought to his position as CFO at the Miami Jewish Home a wealth of experience in healthcare financial management, as well as a complete set of the core capabilities that are important to the Home’s continued financial stability and growth. Mark has a keen sense of the bottom line and a deep understanding of expense management and revenue enhancement. His expertise in healthcare reimbursement is particularly valuable in the context of the challenging nursing home area.”

“I saw great opportunity for improvement at the Miami Jewish Home,” Knight said. “I’m very happy to be working with an organization that has a strong mission and, in addition, a commitment to long-term financial stability.” Looking to the future, Knight said, “Five years from now, Miami Jewish Home will have expanded its range of services by acquisitions similar to our recent purchase of the Coral Way MRI & Diagnostics imaging center, and we will continue to build upon the strong financial base that exists today.”
