Promise Healthcare, Inc. has acquired two hospital companies, which were awarded Certificates of Need (CON) to build hospitals in Miami-Dade and Lee counties. As a result of the acquisitions and CON awards, Promise will be building two new hospitals, one in Miami Lakes and the other on the Gulf Coast in the Ft. Myers area.

The announcement was made jointly by Promise Healthcare, Inc. Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Peter R. Baronoff, and President and Chief Operating Officer Howard B. Koslow.

According to Baronoff, the facilities are designed as 56,000-square-foot, all private room, 60-bed, state-of-the-art freestanding LTAC hospitals. Construction on both will begin in December 2008 with completion expected to be in 12 to 14 months. Site selection in either location has not yet been determined.

As provided at all Promise LTAC hospitals, the new facilities will specialize in high acuity long-term patient care designed to maximize and hasten recovery from the most complex of medical conditions. The hospital’s distinctive LTAC environment provides acute medical care and aggressive therapy services for patients with unresolved, acute, or catastrophic illnesses or severe injuries, as well as multi-system disease processes who require an average length of stay of 25 days or more. Specialties will include acute respiratory/pulmonary care (including ventilator management and weaning), complex wound management, and treatment for multi-system failure and post-surgical complications.

“It is an exciting time at Promise Healthcare as we expand in Florida, our home state,” noted Baronoff, who along with Koslow, recently announced that Promise was awarded a Florida CON to build a 40-bed freestanding hospital in Sumter County that will serve residents of The Villages, the Village of Wildwood, and surrounding communities. Construction on the facility — Promise’s first hospital in the state of Florida — commenced this past summer with construction expected to be completed in 12 to 14 months.
