Promise Healthcare, Inc., one of the nation’s largest long-term acute care (LTAC) hospital companies, began construction on Promise Hospital of Florida at The Villages. This is the first Promise Hospital built in Promise Healthcare’s home state of Florida and is located in Sumter County on the edge of The Villages, Florida’s premiere adult living community. Promise Healthcare had been awarded a Certificate of Need (CON) by the State of Florida Agency for Health Care Administration. The announcement was made jointly by Promise Healthcare, Inc. Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Peter R. Baronoff, and President and Chief Operating Officer Howard B. Koslow.
Construction of the new $22.5 million, all private room, 40-bed, 56,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art LTAC hospital began this summer on land that Promise has purchased from the J.L. Hurst family. According to Baronoff, the new Promise hospital is being built on what will be the J.L. Hurst Campus, which is being named in honor of the local agricultural and community leader. Construction is expected to be completed within 12 to 14 months of groundbreaking.
“We have been working for some time with local officials and community leaders, state representatives, and the Hursts who believed in Promises vision to increase and expand hospital services to the growing adult community in this region,” said Baronoff. He added that as the areas demand increases for LTAC hospital services, the Promise hospital layout can be retro-fitted to accommodate an increased bed capacity of up to 60.
As provided at all Promise LTAC hospitals, the new facility will specialize in high acuity long-term patient care designed to maximize and hasten recovery from the most complex of medical conditions.
“Our entire Promise family is pleased that we are now officially part of the local community, and the State of Florida, and we plan an accelerated quality build to be up and operating in 12 to 14 months from the start of construction,” noted Koslow.
