The governing body of the Miami-Dade County safety net healthcare system recently appointed its new executive board and a new member.
Registered nurse and administrator Georgena D. Ford, R.N., was appointed as a new board member. As Director of Critical Care Services at North Shore Medical Center, Ford was responsible for the administrative and fiscal management, in addition to overseeing the clinical operations. Her 16-year tenure with North Shore also included supervisory positions as Nursing Coordinator, Executive Director of North Dade Clinics, and Administrative Director of Bayshore Home Health. Chairperson Larry Handfield, Esq., was reappointed as chairman. Attorney Handfield is owner of The Handfield Law Firm. He has been a member of the Trust since 1997. Attorney Handfield is also chairman of the Police Oversight Board for the City of Miami.
Laurie Nuell has been reappointed as the secretary of the Public Health Trust Board of Trustees of Miami-Dade County, on which she has served since 1997. Currently, Nuell chairs the PHT Strategic Planning Committee. She has also chaired several key committees of the PHT, including Managed Care and Network Development, Program Planning and Primary Care, and Personnel and Labor Relations. Nuell has also served on the Fiscal Affairs, Corporate Governance, Purchasing, C.B.O. Oversight and PHT Executive committees as well as on the board of Best Buddies International.
A new executive board member, Angel Medina, Jr., was appointed treasurer of the PHT. Medina is a group president of Regions Bank in Miami-Dade County. Medina has dedicated himself to supporting children and families throughout South Florida as evidenced by his active participation in numerous community organizations. He is an active board member of the YMCA and Goodwill Industries, chairman of the Deans Council for the College of Business Administration at Florida International University and serves as chair elect of the Beacon Council.
