New Horizons of the Treasure Coast and Okeechobee held the 8th Annual Race for Recovery 5K Run/Walk at Mets Stadium/First Data Field last week, raising more than whopping $20,000 for mental health and addiction recovery services in our area.
“We are truly grateful for the heartfelt support of mental health. All the runners and walkers, and certainly our sponsors, helped make this year’s event such a great success.” said John Romano, CEO.
Romano, who is retiring in December after 30 years from the nonprofit inpatient and outpatient mental health agency, said that “100% of race proceeds go directly to client services for those in our community who have no source of income or insurance.”
Runners and walkers ranged from age 6 to 80-years-old. The Overall Male Winner of the 5K was Lasean Lanier, 24, with a time of 20:57.80; the Overall Female Winner was Ariel Baron-Robbins, 35, with a time of 22:28.26.
The Overall Master’s Male Winner was Dale Ruby, 56, with a time of 21:13.42; the Overall Female Master’s Winner was Randi Garvey, 59, with a time of 27:05.71.
The Male Winner of the 1-Mile Walk was Gavin Lacey, 10; the Female Winner was Shivani Chaube, 14.

And right on the heels of the race comes another exciting event: the 60th Anniversary Diamond Jubilee on November 10 at Harbour Ridge Yacht and Country Club.
Established in 1958, New Horizons is the most comprehensive mental health and substance abuse agency in the region, with nine offices across Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River and Okeechobee Counties. New Horizons serves 14,000 children and adults annually, regardless of their ability to pay.
