Aryama D. Sharma, M.D., is a gastroenterologist with the Broward Health Physician Group.
She was inspired to pursue medicine to create a safe, supportive space for women to receive care from a female physician, which was not common where she was born and raised in Kenya, Africa. Her choice of gastroenterology bridges the gap between her love of surgery and medicine.
“I always wanted to become a surgeon, and in gastroenterology we do procedures and we see patients. I like having a long-term relationship,” said Dr. Sharma.
Dr. Sharma believes teaching is just as rewarding, and she now serves as the program director for the Gastroenterology Fellowship at Broward Health North.
“Giving back, teaching the younger doctors new skills, I really enjoy that. Medicine is not only a science; it is an art as well,” said Dr. Sharma.
Dr. Sharma earned her medical degree from University of Liverpool, England. She completed both her internal medicine residency and gastroenterology fellowship at St. Louis University School of Medicine.
