As Board Chair of Florida Coast Medical Center, Dr. William E. Carlson plays a key leadership role in shaping the hospital’s mission, growth and commitment to delivering high-quality care to the Treasure Coast community. A respected orthopaedic surgeon and Managing Partner of South Florida Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, Dr. Carlson brings decades of clinical and administrative experience to his leadership position.

Board-certified in orthopedic surgery, he earned his medical degree from St. Louis University School of Medicine and completed his residency training at Wayne State University in Detroit. Since beginning his practice in 1986, Dr. Carlson has developed a specialized focus on shoulder conditions, performing advanced arthroscopic procedures, complex reconstructions and total shoulder replacements. He is among the few surgeons in the region who routinely perform Reverse Total Shoulder Replacement for patients with severe rotator cuff damage and arthritis.

Dr. Carlson is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, an Assistant Professor at Florida State University College of Medicine, and an active contributor to clinical research and medical education nationwide.
