Simone Williamson-Smith has been a leader in many of the positions she’s held during a nearly 16-year Memorial Healthcare System career. Currently a nurse manager, she credits her success to the encouragement of mentors and a workplace environment that fostered the educator inside of her.
“I ask the novice nurses, ‘why be ordinary when you can be extraordinary?’” said Williamson-Smith, who received a Memorial scholarship as a new nurse. “It’s a challenge to them to take ownership of their development and set high standards they can work to achieve.”
Establishing timelines and setting goals comes naturally to Williamson-Smith, a competitive bodybuilder who wakes each day at 3 a.m. to train. It’s an approach that works in both her personal and professional lives. “Simone has worked diligently and the results are reflected in the excellent patient experience and clinical outcomes her unit has delivered,” said Memorial Hospital Pembroke Chief Nursing Officer Jonathan Fraginals.
