Jessica L. Burgers, M.D., FACS, is the Director of the Breast Program and Vice Chief for the Department of Surgery at The Michael and Dianne Bienes Comprehensive Cancer Center at Holy Cross Health in Fort Lauderdale. A board-certified general surgeon specializing in breast surgical oncology, she works closely with the multidisciplinary team to develop customized treatment plans based on a patient’s specific cancer type, stage and prognosis. Dr. Burgers graduated magna cum laude from University of Notre Dame before graduating cum laude with her medical doctorate from The Ohio State University. She completed her general surgery residency at Riverside Methodist Hospital and earned the resident research award for two consecutive years. She completed her breast surgical oncology fellowship at University of Southern California, focusing on caring for patients with benign and malignant breast disease. Dr. Burgers is at the forefront of the latest developments in breast surgery. During her time in California, she trained with Dr. Melvin Silverstein, one of the pioneers of oncoplastic breast surgery, which combines cancer and plastic surgery principles. With this technique, patients can look forward to being cancer-free while also having aesthetically pleasing results following recovery.
