Sports medicine physician Leonardo Oliveira, M.D., F.A.C.P., has joined Cleveland Clinic Florida, the #1 ranked hospital in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale area in US News & World Report 2018-2019 best hospitals issue.  Dr. Oliveira will be based at the organization’s Coral Springs Family Health Center, a recently opened 73,000 square-foot facility as well as the main campus in Weston, Florida. He will co-lead the Sports Medicine Department alongside Farah Tejpar, M.D. 
 
Board certified in sports medicine, Dr. Oliveira specializes in non-operative orthopedics, sports medicine, and musculoskeletal ultrasound. He treats patients with acute and chronic sports injuries, sports concussions, osteoarthritis and musculoskeletal disorders. 
 
“Dr. Oliveira’s research and clinical experience in sports medicine and exercise performance will serve as an invaluable asset to our sports medicine team and the patients who seek our care,” said Wael Barsoum, M.D., CEO and President of Cleveland Clinic Florida. “Dr. Oliveira is passionate about helping patients achieve a high level of sports performance and return to physical activity. He will be pursuing research to improve care for tendon disorders and evaluate the role of orthobiologics in the treatment of tendon and cartilage injuries.”
 
Before joining Cleveland Clinic Florida, Dr. Oliveira was a sports medicine physician with University of Chicago Medicine, where he also served as an assistant professor of Orthopedic Surgery and Rehabilitation Medicine. He was a team physician for the WNBA’s Chicago Sky and Concordia University Chicago, as well as Bremen and Hillcrest High Schools. 
 
Originally from Brazil, Dr. Oliveira earned his medical degree from Universidade Federal Fluminense in Rio de Janeiro. He completed an internal medicine residency and primary care sports medicine fellowship at Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. 
 
Dr. Oliveira has received numerous awards and spoken nationally and internationally on sports concussions and tendinopathies. Recently, he received the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine Traveling Fellowship Award and is a fellow of the American College of Physicians.
