Officials at Catholic Health Services announced that one of their flagship nursing centers, St. John’s Nursing Center in Lauderdale Lakes, was selected to participate in a national demonstration project to assure quality and improve performance in nursing homes. The Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) project will build on the quality assurance programs that nursing homes currently have in place for monitoring and emphasizing ongoing performance improvement.
St. John’s Nursing Center, along with 16 other nursing homes in four states, California, Florida, Massachusetts and Minnesota, will develop and launch QAPI programs, test technical assistance approaches, and evaluate program implementation. This demonstration will run from September 2011 through August 2013. Demonstration participants will play a key role in helping to shape training materials and resources that will eventually be available to all nursing homes across the country.
