April 20, 2021 – Stan Meadows, hospital executive to Holy Cross Health, has joined the Alzheimer’s Association for the second consecutive year as the 2021 Walk to End Alzheimer’s event chair in Broward County.
“I’m excited and honored to chair the walk again this year,” Meadows said. “While 2020 was challenging, our committee, team captains, walkers and families were resilient and we achieved great success. For 2021, our entire committee has returned and we’ve further expanded with even more dedicated volunteers. We are off to a great start, and I know this year will be even better!”
More than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease, according to the Alzheimer’s Association, including 580,000 Floridians. Additionally, more than 11 million Americans provide care to loved ones with Alzheimer’s and other dementias.
The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research programs. Last year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, participants walked individually and in small groups throughout their communities rather than at one large gathering. This year, the Association is moving forward with plans to host the Walk to End Alzheimer’s in person.
“The health and safety of participants, volunteers and staff remain our top priorities as we continue to monitor the pandemic and make decisions about event details in our community,” said Alie Rousseau, director of the Broward County Walk to End Alzheimer’s. “While we’re planning to gather in person, we will continue to offer options to participate in Walk online and in your neighborhood.
“Families facing Alzheimer’s and all other dementia need us now more than ever — and with your support, we can continue to be there for them,” Rousseau continued. “Every dollar you raise through Walk to End Alzheimer’s allows the Alzheimer’s Association to provide 24/7 care and support while accelerating critical research.”
