2012 Keynote Speaker, Michael O’Donnell, PhD, Editor and Publisher of the American Journal of Health Promotion

The U.S. is facing an aging workforce that is not only declining in health but growing in numbers. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported in the December 13, 2012 issue of Preventing Chronic Disease that “with the passage of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), worksite wellness programs will become part of a national public health strategy.” Research has shown that targeted worksite wellness programming can be an answer to the increase in healthcare expenditures and declining health and can produce a positive return on investment (saving more than $3.00 in medical expenses for every dollar spent on the program). The goal of a good program is to keep your healthy employees well and reduce the modifiable risk factors for chronic diseases of those employees already at risk. Chronic diseases are largely preventable and sometimes reversible if the proper preventive steps are taken. The 2013 Florida Worksite Wellness Forum and Awards is an effort to address this greatest workforce challenge and will take place on Friday, April 12, 2013 at the Miami Beach Resort and Spa.

The Forum includes morning workshops with two separate tracks: one for beginners and one for those more advanced to learn from local and national experts on programming options, legal issues and national resources available. Attendees can earn 3 HR, CHES, RD or RN credits. The event culminates with an awards luncheon that honors small, mid-sized and large employers with the strongest performing program outcomes. The deadline for submitting a nomination is Monday, March 18, 2013 at 12:00 pm.
