Novemebr 12, 2019 – The Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties will be part of the “Ending the HIV Epidemic: A Plan for America” Initiative. On October 1, 2019 the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), through the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), awarded funding to 32 state and local health departments around the country for the development of comprehensive “Ending the HIV Epidemic” jurisdictional plans. The proposed federal initiative seeks to reduce new HIV infections in America by 90% by 2030. Plans will be based upon a national framework that identified the highest-impact HIV prevention, care, treatment, and outbreak response strategies.

In efforts to increase community involvement, the Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties are launching an Ending the HIV Epidemic Survey. The survey will provide communities, especially those that have been heavily impacted by HIV, with an opportunity to share their input on how Miami-Dade and Broward Counties can enhance HIV prevention and care efforts. Emphasis will be made on innovative strategies that can help achieve “Ending the HIV Epidemic” goals. Recommendations from the survey will assist the Florida Department of Health in the creation of a local plan.
