MEET FOUR OF THE  FIME 2022   INNOV8  FINALISTS

#1 RobotDreams

By Ulrich Weigelt – Germany

Cardiovascular diseases are the number one cause of death in the EU alone, accounting for around two million deaths and costing around 196 billion Euros per year. Especially in crowded emergency rooms, expensive, long and inaccurate diagnoses hinder timely and effective medical care. Approximately 9.8 million patients are coming to the emergency department with acute chest pain. This results in approximately 2% missed infarcts (sick patients are sent home) and approximately 8.5% patients are unnecessarily hospitalized (healthy patients are admitted to the hospital).

It is well known that the timing of specialized medical care and adequate referral of patients with acute chest pain have a direct impact on the prognosis of the disease and the likelihood of unfavorable outcomes. At the same time clinical blood analysis is one of the most accessible diagnostic methods in practical medicine as it reflects systemic pathological processes in the human body based on quantitative assessment of cell composition and blood morphology. Modern automated hematological analyzers are capable of characterizing more than 20 parameters of blood cells. Due to the large amount of information obtained about the patient’s blood count, physicians are often unable to fully interpret it in relation to the clinical situation

RobotDreams®‘s award-winning and patent-pending AI-based software can detect cardiac disease in the blood very quickly, accurately, and inexpensively during the initial routine analysis. In this process the properties of the subpopulations of leukocytes measured in the hematology analyzer are evaluated by the AI algorithms. As a result, valuable time can be saved and patients can receive timely and effective treatment. Fewer patients are hospitalized unnecessarily, and emergency departments are relieved

#2 Positrigo

By Dr. Jannis Fischer – Switzerland

Dementia is a major problem in our aging societies, affecting around 50 million people worldwide and causing costs of nearly 1 trillion USD per year. Early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) which accounts for 60% – 80% of patients with dementia is crucial and positron emission tomography (PET) is considered the gold standard. Beside dementia diagnosis, PET is used also to diagnose several other brain related disorders like Parkinson´s disease, Epilepsy and brain cancer. However, current scanners are whole body, very expensive devices with limited availability resulting in more than 50% of people with AD to remain undiagnosed. Moreover, treatments are now starting to become available for AD, but a more accessible tool for early diagnosis is still missing in order to monitor such treatments regularly.

To address this unmet need, Positrigo has developed a new PET scanner that offers efficient functional brain imaging at a fraction of today’s cost. NeuroLF® is specifically designed and patent protected to scan the brain and is – compared to conventional whole-body PET devices – much smaller and less expensive. NeuroLF is movable and gives clinicians highest flexibility as the device can be relocated between rooms which is not possible with current PET scanners. In addition, by combining hardware with Scanning as a Service, a platform with an unprecedented database of PET images will be created which will allow us to develop the next generation of software solutions in the field of nuclear medicine.

#3 RolloGuard – bringing safety to 4-wheeled walkers

By Patrik Zander – Sweden

It all started over 30 years ago with preventing backlash on fishing reels. But challenges raising capital in combination with the inventor and co-founder falling badly using his wheeled walker, made the company do a complete 180 and started developing RolloGuard.

RolloGuard is an accessory for wheeled walkers that instantly brings stability and safety that you normally only get from a traditional walker. RolloGuard actively monitors the wheeled walker and brings it to an instant stop once a dangerous movement is detected. RolloGuard, which is mounted inside the rear wheels, utilizes the patented Transversor technology to detect very small changes in speed.

RolloGuard not only actively monitors and prevents falls, but for users now knowingly having a safer rollator they become less afraid of falling. Clinical trials have shown that a 4-wheeled walker equipped with RolloGuard not only makes it safer but also a more versatile mobility aid;

  • Speeding up recovery from injuries and surgery by allowing users to move from a walking frame to a wheeled walker earlier than before
  • Promoting users with a hasty gait to slow down and walk safer and more harmonically
  • Warning users when they move to uneven surfaces
  • Promoting a more upright gait with less back pain

By simply replacing the rear wheels, users can enjoy safety and stability of a walker combined with mobility and independence of a 4-wheeled walker.

RolloGuard is clinically proven to reduce fear of falling and improving quality of life.

#4 VivoDoc

By Rahman Mohammed, MD USA

I am proud to be part of ‘a great Healthcare system’ as a physician and entrepreneur. Healthcare has evolved both in research and technology but left some gaps which are getting worse. Loss of ‘patient-physician relationship’ and the casualties being the physicians themselves. VivoDoc was founded with a purpose to bring back the sacred patient-physician relationship, bring price transparency and make healthcare affordable, accessible to all.

It has become an uphill struggle for Outpatient private practices to survive in the ocean of Healthcare systems. The personalized compassionate care which was the core of patient satisfaction was much higher in outpatient private practice settings compared to larger healthcare systems.

Outpatient private practices need a supporting hand to survive and thrive. With so many proposed solutions in the market it has become even more complicated. VivoDoc brings in “All in one healthcare technology Platform” to connect patients with Providers, making it easy, transparent and convenient. It’s comprehensive in nature to provide all tools needed to run a successful practice. We hand hold patients all through their healthcare journey improving their satisfaction and better health outcome.
