The Pediatric Sedation unit of Chris Evert Childrens Hospital at Broward General Medical Center is the 2007 winner of the 11th annual Ernest Amory Codman Award from the Joint Commission which evaluates and accredits more 8,000 hospitals across the country. The Codman is a national award recognizing excellence by health care organizations to achieve improvements in the quality and safety of health care.
The Pediatric Sedation team provides outpatient sedation for infants and children who need radiological procedures, such as CAT scans, MRI, bone scans and EEGs. Sedation is the use of a sedative or tranquilizing drug to minimize a childs fear and anxiety, which is important to all children and especially those with special needs including children with autism. “Our most important priority with children is their safety and comfort,” says Alan Levine, President/CEO of Broward Health, the parent corporation of Chris Evert Children’s Hospital. “We are grateful the Codman Award recognizes our passion for children and the importance of setting the standard for care.” Broward General CEO Joe Scott said, “This prestigious award reflects the true commitment of the entire team at Broward General and Chris Evert Childrens Hospital to measurably improving care in our community.
