February 7, 2021 – HCA Florida University Hospital, a 165-bed facility and part of HCA Florida Healthcare, today announced the appointment of Dr. Steven Vanni as chief of medical staff.

Board-certified and fellowship-trained, Dr. Vanni, a neurosurgeon, has practiced medicine for more than 26 years. Prior to joining HCA Florida University Hospital, Dr. Vanni served as the chief of spine surgery at Jackson Memorial Hospital and the University of Miami. He now serves as adjunct professor of neurosurgery at Nova Southeastern University’s college of medicine and continues to serve as a volunteer professor at the University of Miami.

“I’m thrilled and honored to join this new, state-of-the-art facility and create a comprehensive neurosciences program,” said Dr. Vanni. “The diagnosis and treatment of complex neurological conditions require an exceptional team and the most advanced technology. We have both at HCA Florida University Hospital.”

Dr. Vanni also served as a professor in the departments of neurosurgery, orthopedics, and rehabilitation at the University of Miami, with extensive publications in spine journals and cancer research.

“Neurologic conditions and injuries are some of the most complex conditions to treat,” said Madeline Nava, CEO of HCA Florida University Hospital. “Dr. Vanni is a highly accomplished physician, and with his experience and leadership, our patients will receive quality care from one of the most respected neurosurgeons in South Florida. Our comprehensive neurosciences program sets the bar for care in Broward County and beyond.”

Having trained as a chiropractor, osteopath, and neurosurgeon, Dr. Vanni’s unique background provides patients with a holistic approach to medical and surgical options in treating neurosurgical issues, especially pertaining to the spine.

Outside of the operating room, Dr. Vanni studies nutrition and recently published a book on weight loss. Additionally, he co-founded the Mystic Force Foundation, a non-profit that raises awareness of childhood cancer and funds clinical research to bring less toxic, more effective treatments for children.
