November 14, 2022 — Two doctors from the Lee Health Heart and Vascular Institute have been recognized with prestigious appointments.

Dr. Richard Chazal, a senior cardiologist and the Medical Director of Lee Health Heart and Vascular Institute, has been elected treasurer of the World Heart Federation (WHF), based in Geneva, Switzerland, for 2023-24. Dr. Chazal has served on the WHF Board for the past four years.

 

 

 

Dr. Juan Lopez-Mattei, Medical Director of Cardiac Imaging at Lee Health Heart and Vascular Institute, has been elected vice chair of the Alliance for Physician Certification and Advancement (APCA) Certification Board of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CBCMR) and, in three years, he will be the chair.

 

 

 

“This demonstrates the excellence we have in our physician leaders and I’m proud of Dr. Chazal and Dr. Lopez-Mattei for earning these distinctions. It speaks to their hard work, commitment and dedication to patient care,” said Dr. Scott Nygaard, chief operating officer of Lee Health.

Since 1983, Dr. Chazal has practiced clinical cardiology in Fort Myers with a focus in echocardiography, diagnostic catheterization and coronary computerized tomography angiography. Dr. Chazal has served in multiple leadership roles in regional, state, national and international cardiology organizations. He is a past president of the American College of Cardiology.

Dr. Juan Lopez-Mattei is a nationally recognized expert in cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging, echocardiography, cardiovascular computed tomography and cardio-oncology. He has held leadership positions in the American College of Cardiology, the Society of Cardiovascular Computer Tomography, the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance and the American Society of Echocardiography.
