United HomeCare (UHC) is this year’s recipient of the Healthcare Services Award presented at the tenth annual Beacon Awards & Lifestyle Auction.
UHC has more than doubled in size since 2005. The agency has a staff of 800-plus employees and volunteers providing more than 17,000 hours of care each week to well over 4,500 clients across Miami-Dade County.
In the past two years, UHC restructured its operations, forming a new centralized Customer Care Center, and moved its headquarters into a 23,000 square foot office suite in Doral. As part of its relocation, United HomeCare also established the Caregiver Resource Center, the first of its kind in Miami. The center is dedicated exclusively to assisting non-professional caregivers of frail elderly and disabled adults.
In addition, UHC continues to champion the advancement of home and community-based care through its engagement in national and local research initiatives. These include its Techno-Savvy Seniors program, funded by a grant from the Alliance for Aging of Miami-Dade, and Healthy IDEAS (Identifying Depression, Empowering Activities for Seniors), a community program supported by grant funding from Health Foundation of South Florida.
