Why WHEN? Why Now?

 

The Women’s Healthcare Executive Network (WHEN) of South Florida is a non-profit professional organization that provides opportunities for women working in the healthcare industry to enhance their leadership skills. For over twenty years, WHEN has served its South Florida members in the tri-county areas of Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach. WHEN enjoys a strong working relationship with the South Florida Hospital and Healthcare Association (SFHHA), as well as the South Florida Healthcare Executive Forum (SFHEF). SFHEF is an independent chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), an international society of more than 30,000 healthcare executives.

 

In March, WHEN of South Florida appointed its 2014 – 2015 Board of Directors, comprising a diverse group of professional healthcare women determined to bring the organization’s values to life by promoting continuous self-improvement, supporting leadership discovery, and celebrating excellence – or more simply stated “EMPOWER”: E-xcellence, M-entorship, P-rofessionalism, O-pportunity, W-isdom, E-ducation and R-espect.

 

Although WHEN is a women-focused organization, it extends a warm welcome for everyone to join and attend its many programs, including educational forums, networking events, professional development workshops, in addition to its well-established mentoring program.

 

WHEN’s mission is to successfully position and empower healthcare executives within the ever-changing healthcare service delivery system of South Florida. Through a variety of activities and efforts, WHEN promotes its mission by strengthening women’s presence as leaders within the healthcare industry. WHEN’s vision is to distinguish itself as an expanding platform for the motivation and growth of leadership roles. Through the development and support of healthcare professionals, WHEN brings its core values to life.

 

WHEN’s mentorship program was initiated in 2013 to assist their members’ “growth” and transition into leadership roles within the healthcare industry. This unique program aligns early and mid-careerists with senior healthcare executives. As an active member, Martha McGill, COO at Miami Children’s Hospital, shares her valuable insight,

Find out more! Join us on the evening of Thursday, May 29, 2014 from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Palmetto General Hospital for our educational program: “Collaborative Insights: An Emerging Leadership”. Our panel will include the following two senior healthcare leaders: Penny Shaffer, Ph.D., Florida Blue Market President for South Florida responsible for the company’s business operations in an 8-county region from the Keys north to the Treasure Coast; as well as Mark Kent, Regional President for healthcare delivery across the state of Florida in leading CAC – Florida Medical Centers, Continucare Medical Centers, and MetCare Medical Centers- all wholly-owned subsidiaries of Humana, Inc. Our discussions will encompass the evolution of leadership, overcoming career barriers and prescriptive recommendations for success. Registration is $15.00 for members and $30.00 for non-members.
