October 4 ,2022 –Women In Distress of Broward County, Inc. (WID) updates the former TTY/TDD phone number to 7-1-1 to streamline telecommunication services to Broward survivors of domestic violence, community members, and partners.
Women In Distress of Broward County, Inc. is the only nationally accredited, state certified and full-service domestic violence center serving Broward County. For 48 years, WID has offered victims of domestic violence in our community the support they need to find safe shelter and supportive services to begin to heal. WID will now utilize the Florida Telecommunications Relay service by dialing, 7-1-1. This update will enhance the service that callers and advocates are able to access immediately, and whenever needed. A telecommunications relay service (TRS) provides a communications assistant (CA) that allows people who are deaf, hard of hearing, or have a speech disability to communicate with people who use a standard telephone.

No one should have any barriers to getting the help they need to escape domestic violence. We are thankful for our supporters for making this a possibility.”
Women In Distress states that the current Crisis Hotline number, (954)761-1133, remains in effect for the rest of the population in Broward and, as always, is staffed 24/7.
Last year, Women In Distress provided more than 27,000 nights of safe shelter, answered nearly 15,000 calls to its 24-Hour Crisis Hotline and provided 23,000 hours of counseling and therapy to survivors from all walks of life.
